THE GREATER Dandenong Star has shared in the success at Star News Group’s annual AllStars Awards held last weekend at Scienceworks Museum in Spotswood.
Greater Dandenong Star readers will be delighted to know that their local paper defeated tough competition from Star News Group’s stable of mastheads across Victoria to take out best feature story and best advertising feature categories.
Best feature story went to journalist Shaun Inguanzo for his story No Sheep – But a New Life Calls, an intriguing profile on Dandenong man Alex Ujka’s journey from communist Albania to Australia, where he ditched his shepherd’s robes to become an interpreter for his community and a dedicated member of the Lions Club of Dandenong.
Best advertising feature went to the Greater Dandenong Star’s special edition 16-page wraparound that marked the Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce’s 2006 Premier Regional Business Awards gala dinner.
Star editor Garry Howe said the wrap-around feature was a brilliant combination of editorial and advertising that served to highlight the ongoing contributions that business plays to the Greater Dandenong region.
Mr Howe said it also marked Star’s willingness to support the Greater Dandenong business community’s achievements above and beyond its competitors. It was sold by advertising executives Bruce Brown and Samantha Smith.
