Wool poppies, warm hearts

By CASEY NEILL

A DANDENONG craft class is crocheting and knitting in tribute to Australia’s fallen soldiers.
Wellsprings for Women’s Crafty Connections group for women with special needs is making poppies from red and black wool and felt.
They’ll join a display at Federation Square next year to mark the Anzac Centenary.
Organisers have collected 50,000 poppies so far and are hoping to reach 100,000.
“We’re going to make as many as we can,” craft leader Rita Pool said.
“It’s quite addictive once people buy their ball of wool.
“You can make about 15 from one ball.”
