Resume mobile library: plea

RESIDENTS at the Willow Lodge retirement village in Bangholme are fighting for the council to overturn its decision to wipe out the city’s mobile library service.
Between 80 and 100 residents this week handed a petition to the City of Greater Dandenong Council urging it to reverse a December decision to end its mobile library service after an officer’s report said the service was not receiving enough users.
But Keysborough Ward councillor Roz Blades, who is leading the charge to reverse that decision, said the Willow Lodge petition highlighted the service’s necessity to the city.
“Everyone is saying that mobile library users only come from Keysborough, but they are not,” she said.
“Willow Lodge in Bangholme is a significant mobile library site and without it, the residents will be significantly disadvantaged. Bangholme is in the middle of nowhere with rotten public transport.”
Cr Blades said the prime mover transporting the mobile library had travelled only 47,500 km and had plenty of years of service remaining.
