A CAR struck a 61-year-old woman as she crossed the Princes Highway in Dandenong, and then fled the scene.
Police are appealing for any information about the incident, which occurred near Jones Road, about 9.40pm on Friday 30 October.
They said the driver was behind the wheel of an early model white Holden Commodore – possibly a VT or VX – and stopped 75 metres from the collision scene, got out of the car and walked back to where the woman was lying on the road.
The man looked at the victim before running back to his car and driving away.
The victim was taken to The Alfred hospital with serious injuries.
