Gordon bows out of council race

WITH the council election around the corner, councillor Alan Gordon has announced he will not run in this year’s Greater Dandenong council poll.
The current Springvale North Ward councillor said he had made the decision in August not to run for another term but had kept it to himself until now.
“I have decided to give it a miss,” Cr Gordon said.
“I have no motivation to doorknock and I decided to go out on my own terms rather than party politics.”
Cr Gordon said he would miss his role as councillor but would still attend all council meetings and act as a “community consultant” for pressing issues.
“I am still going to be helping residents,” he said.
He said the current council had in general “failed the community” during their last term.
“It is sad to see that some councillors are only now starting to do good things, right before the election,” Cr Gordon said.
When asked how he thought the new council could improve on past years, he said communication was important.
“I hope the new council speaks to one another,” Cr Gordon said.
“Currently there is a very obvious division, it’s very cliquey and I don’t think that’s good for council.”
