Former Dandenong Girls High School students will reunite in their old classrooms for what is likely to be the final time.
Colleen Bailey said an event on Saturday 25 March would mark the school’s 60th anniversary.
The school had gone through a series of names, she said, including Dandenong Girls Secondary School, Dandenong Girls High School, Dandenong North High School, Cleeland High School and Cleeland Secondary College.
“Now it’s part of Dandenong High School’s Ann Street campus,” she said.
“We held a reunion in 2014 and it was supposed to be the last reunion as the school is being demolished.
“The hall and gym have been removed but classrooms are still standing, so we took advantage of that and asked if we could hold the anniversary reunion at the school.”
Ms Bailey said that more than 800 people attended the last reunion and organisers were hoping to repeat the achievement.
“People are coming from interstate and are madly booking flights and accommodation,” she said.
“We all have good memories from the school years and the committee is made up from students ranging from the 1960s to 1980s, and we have great support from Greta Jungworth who is an ex-teacher.”
Ms Bailey said organisers were planning to compile the school’s yearly magazine called The Torch on a USB and sell them for about $15.
“As our reunion committee have no funding we will have to take orders on the day and post them out to interested ex-students unless, of course, if we can get some sponsorship from local businesses,” she said.
The reunion will run from 1pm to 4pm at the Ann Street site. Entry is a $10 donation.
