Keysborough students spent two days washing cars to aid research into brain cancer in children.
The Keysborough Secondary College Interact Club members raised more than $400 by cleaning teachers’ cars on Fridays 5 and 12 May.
Teacher David Pfeiffer said they would donate it to the Isabella and Marcus Paediatric Brainstem Fund.
“Brain cancer is the leading cause of death from disease in children in Australia and this form of brainstem cancer is the most dangerous,” he said.
“It is usually found in children under 12 and, once diagnosed, there is no prospect of long-term survival and most children die within 12 months.
“In fact, there has been no progress in the treatment of this disease for the last 30 years – this charity aims to change that.
“Interact Club members chose the charity because of the lack of research funding and the terrible consequences of the disease.”
