Police anger over highway racetrack

By Jade Lawton
TWO Grand Prix fans have lost their licences after they treated the South Gippsland Highway like their own raceway on the way to Phillip Island on the weekend.
Cardinia’s Traffic Management Unit intercepted a 31-year-old Dandenong North man near Caldermeade on Sunday morning after he was caught doing 142 km/h on the 100 km/h highway.
The man was fined $421 and lost his licence for six months.
Shortly after, police detected a 31-year-old Carlton man travelling at 162 km/h. His motorcycle was impounded for 48 hours and his licence has been cancelled for 12 months.
Acting Sergeant of the Cardinia TMU Mal Marsden said police were otherwise pleased with motorists’ behaviour during the event.
