Q & A

Cathy McIntyre, South East Melbourne Manufacturers Alliance (SEMMA)

What is something people don’t know about you?
That I’m leaving SEMMA to join the Victoria Police force in 2018.

What was your most memorable moment at SEMMA?
Meeting so many awesome people … manufacturers are the BEST!

What would your last meal be?
So much chocolate that I would die of a chocolate overdose.

How did you get involved with SEMMA?
I was just lucky enough to be looking for a job to get back into the workforce part-time and the position at SEMMA was being advertised.

What event, past, present or future, would you like to witness?
I’d love to be able to pop back into life in the year 3000 … to see what the human race is up to and how the world looks. But I’d also love to pop back a couple of hundred years to live in Jane Austen’s time, I just love the language they used.

What is your favourite television show?
Have You Been Paying Attention – it’s the funniest show I’ve watched in forever.

What would you like people to understand about manufacturing?
That it is an integral part of Australia’s economy, with skills and capabilities that are unique to our country, and that it is alive and thriving.

What six guests, dead or alive, would you invite to a dinner party?
Tom Hanks (’cause I’ve always loved him), Mark Ruffalo (’cause he’s adorable), Sam Pang and Troy Kinnie (for laughs), my girlfriend Sandy (she’s hilarious) and my gorgeous man Tony.

What has been your most embarrassing moment?
I was on the Flowrider at Dreamworld a couple of years ago and crashed on a wave and lost my bikini top. Of course the way my mum tells the story, there was also a large crowd of guys (who mysteriously turned up just at the right moment … ) who all saw it!

How can people support the local manufacturing industry?
By using local suppliers and buying Australian-made products.

What was the first or best concert you attended?
I saw The Proclaimers at Dallas Brooks Hall when I was about 18, but the best concert I attended was Hi-5 (the original cast).
