A Springvale man suffered burns in a house fire, prompting police warnings about the danger of candles.
Greater Dandenong CIU Senior Constable Blake Gilbert said candles burning in a rear bedroom sparked the Hope Street blaze about 10pm on Monday 22 January.
He said the occupant, a 32-year-old man, fell asleep with the candles alight and suffered minor burns to his shoulder, hands and legs.
The CFA attended and extinguished the fire. Sen Const Gilbert said the property was now uninhabitable.
“The community needs to be aware of the dangers of candles and to never leave one burning, especially at night time before sleep,” he said.
