SANDOWN will host the Group 3 Eclipse Stakes worth $125,000 this Saturday with last weekend’s Sandown Classic winner Roman Arch leading the nominations for the feature race.
Trainer Robbie Laing said the horse pulled up well from the Classic and would have little trouble backing up, despite having to carry 60 kilogram top weight.
Cranbourne Cup winner Show Barry, together with Sydney visitors Jeremaid and Aqua D’Amore, will provide stiff opposition for Laing’s seven-year-old gelding.
Due to post Spring Carnival track maintenance at Caulfield, the 70-year-old Eclipse Stakes meeting has been transferred to the Sandown Lakeside track.
Normally run over 2000 metres, the distance has been extended to 2100 metres this year.
Course admission on Saturday will be $7 for adults, $4 concession and children under 18 accompanied by an adult will be admitted free.
