Palmer’s tenure is up

Southern Football and Netball League CEO Mike Palmer will retire from his position on 31 October after announcing his decision on 2 October.
Palmer, a highly respected sports administrator, addressed the SFNL board on Tuesday 25 September with his intentions to retire, citing an unexpected and challenging workload as a major factor in his decision
“It is disappointing that Mike will not be continuing with us into the future,” SFNL chairman Marc Gauci told the league website.
“We were excited by his appointment; however we understand that season 2018 presented him with a number of challenges leading to his decision to retire from full-time duties.”
Palmer told the SFNL board that it was important to have someone in the role that could be fully committed to the long term.
“I have had outstanding support from the chairman, board and staff of SFNL, however after finishing the season I have decided not to continue,” he said.
“It is important that the league has a person in place with the ability to provide a long term commitment to the league and on reflection, I am not in a position to do this completely.”
“I would particularly like to thank all club presidents and key stakeholders for their support and I wish them all the very best for future seasons. As a collective, they are best placed to face the challenges ahead to build a strong and enduring league into the future.”
The SFNL is yet to make an announcement on their next CEO.
