A NEW $24 million Community Chef kitchen has opened in Altona and will benefit Greater Dandenong residents.
The project is designed to ensure the food security and the nutritional well-being of older adults and other vulnerable people.
Federal Health and Ageing Minister Nicola Roxon and Victorian Mental Health, Community Services and Seniors Minister Lisa Neville opened Community Chef.
Greater Dandenong mayor Jim Memeti said the project, which involved 20 Victorian councils including Greater Dandenong, would help meet the increasing demands for Meals and Wheels services.
“Not only will the council be able to provide high quality meals but it will also allow for a diverse menu which will cater for different ethnic diets and special dietary requirements,” he said.
“This valuable service assists our residents to live independently in their own homes and maintain their nutritional requirements, health and wellbeing.”
The kitchen used the latest technology and techniques and increases food safety.
