FOR six years Wilson Fernandez has been capturing the essence of Christmas at St Elizabeth’s Parish, Dandenong North.
The local resident creates a large nativity scene at the church for parish members and the community to view every year.
Mr Fernandez said he was committed to the project, changing the scene every week to tell the story of Christmas – from the start of advent to the arrival of the three kings to visit baby Jesus in the manger.
Mr Fernandez said the nativity scene had been growing and getting better every year.
He said he created the nativity scene to help share the good news of Christmas with the wider community.
“It’s a good way to celebrate the festival itself,” he said. “It brings a lot of joy to those who see it.
“I do it to help pass on the good word of Christmas to the wider community. It’s particularly a good way to tell the story of Christ to children.”
Mr Fernandez said he had used various natural materials to create the nativity scene to take people to the times of Christ.
This year it is a different design so Mr Fernandez encouraged everyone to go down and have a look.
The public is able to visit the nativity scene until 7 January, at the Saturday 6.30pm Mass, Sunday 8.30am, 10.30am, and 5.30pm Masses and weekdays, except Mondays, at 9.15am mass.
Appointments can be made to view the scene at other times by calling Mr Fernandez on 0432 598 420 or Cheryl on 9795 6217
St Elizabeth’s Parish is at 107 Bakers Road, Dandenong North.
