WALKER Street Gallery and Art Centre is bringing the stories of female war survivors to Dandenong.
Sarajevo Suite, written by Helen Lucas and directed by Bagryana Popov, tells the story of three women – two Bosnians and one Serbian – during the siege of Sarajevo. They share the small details of their lives and their great losses, woven with poetry and music.
Sarajevo Suite brings the story of the war in Bosnia to Australian audiences and tells of the trauma that remains after war.
The performance is part of La Mama’s Arts About Us project, ‘Theatre for Our Diverse Community’.
VicHealth’s acting-CEO associate professor John Fitzgerald said Arts About Us was a VicHealth program that encouraged dialogue about the impact of race-based discrimination and the benefits of cultural diversity.
“Arts About Us projects such as Sarajevo Suite provide a powerful platform for celebrating cultural diversity and strengthening cultural understanding,” he said.
Sarajevo Suite will be shown at the Walker Street Gallery and Art Centre on Thursday 14 July, at 8pm.
