A DANDENONG police officer required stitches to his face after he was assaulted while pulling over a car.
Dandenong police said the officer was travelling along Kitchen Road, Dandenong South, at 12.30am on Sunday, 5 August.
The officer pulled over a vehicle and spoke to the driver, asking him to accompany him back to Dandenong Police Station for a breath test.
Police said a man in the passenger’s seat exited the car and assaulted the officer.
The officer called for assistance and Dandenong police sent backup units to the scene.
The officer went to Dandenong Hospital where he received two stitches to a cut above his eye.
Police have charged a 34-year-old Cranbourne man with intentionally and recklessly causing injury, unlawful assault, and assaulting police.
The man has been scheduled to appear before Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 11 December.

SCISSORS were used to threaten a 14-year-old boy to hand over his mobile phone and belongings outside Noble Park Railway Station on the weekend.
Police said the 14-year-old Narre Warren North boy was with two friends who had exited a train at the station at 6.30pm on Saturday, 4 August.
Police said the boys were surrounded by a group of 20 youths of African appearance, with one pulling out a pair of scissors and threatening the 14-year-old to hand over his mobile phone.
Another of the group punched the 14-year-old, who then promptly handed the phone to the man.
