Rock attack stuns couple

By Shaun Inguanzo
AN ELDERLY Noble Park couple is rattled this week after a rock was hurled through their bedroom window.
Kingsley and Shirley Simmons of Harold Road, Noble Park, were disgusted to find the rock and shattered glass lying on the floor of their bedroom on Thursday 2 August after returning from a quick afternoon visit to Parkmore Shopping Centre.
The Simmons had just bought a new bed and had rushed home excitedly to tidy the bedroom for its arrival.
But when Mrs Simmons, 70, was tidying the room, she was horrified to find the curtain flapping because of a breeze blowing through a gaping hole in the window.
Mr Simmons, 70, said the rock and broken glass were lying on the bedroom floor, and the reality soon kicked in.
“I was flabbergasted,” he told Star.
“Shirley was frightened, she almost didn’t want to sleep in the room that night.”
Mr Simmons said he had no idea who committed the crime, but reported it to police.
He said the couple had lived in Noble Park for 35 years and never experienced anything as dramatic as the wayward rock.
“I said to the police that this was the first time such a thing had happened to us,” he said.
“The police said that it was probably kids walking up and down the street who randomly threw the rock.”
Mr Simmons said the couple’s car was often parked in the driveway, and perhaps opportunistic criminals noticed they were not home when they threw the rock.
Mr Simmons raised an insurance claim, and was relieved to have the window repaired within 24 hours.
“I am relieved that the window has now been fixed, because we were worried about the rain coming in and water damaging our house,” he said.
“But it didn’t rain overnight, thank God for that.”
