DANDENONG’S largest youth talent quest will this year take place in the new Drum Theatre and Town Hall complex to accommodate the thousands of spectators the event draws.
Mission Australia’s Urban Quest, held annually in conjunction with the Dandenong Plaza, has outgrown the shopping centre’s premises.
Submissions for the Australian Idol-like competition close on 15 March.
Mission Australia Youth Information Centre coordinator Rosemary Nelson said the competition was a forum for young people.
“The event will provide young people, aged 12 to 25, with a space to showcase their talents and express themselves creatively through music and dance,” she said.
Entrants will have the choice of entering a number of categories including vocals, dance and street – a category including rap, beat-boxing and spoken word.
Heats will run on 30 and 31 March, with the grand final to be held on 1 April.
Prizes will include opportunities for winners to gain exposure in the music industry with free recording time, paid performances and vocal lessons up for grabs.
