THE Dandenong Thunder Soccer Club is fighting for survival after its newly installed floodlights were deemed unfit for use by a Football Federation Victoria (FFV) subcontractor.
Club president Penno Huseini said the entire club was devastated.
“We rescheduled what would have been our first night match last Friday night,” he said.
“The club and our sponsors put in $40,000 and the City of Greater Dandenong matched that amount.
“The council approved the design and specifications – now we are being blocked by the subcontractor.”
The club is receiving legal advice on the matter and is calling on the FFV to step in and mediate the problem.
“The standard illuminance required by the league is 147 lux, our lights measure 214 lux,” Huseini said.
“But now the subcontractor believes 280 lux is the minimum.”
The next night match scheduled for the Thunder is 28 April, and Huseini is praying for the issue to be resolved.
“If it is not we risk losing sponsors and the support of the locals,” he said.
“In this league we are fighting for survival at the best times, so this situation put the club in a lot of trouble.”
No light issue for club
