DANDENONG Rangers basketballers Bryce Arnott, Samir Omerbasic and Stephanie Cumming have been selected to take part in Basketball Australia’s national development camp at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra.
The camp will be held from 17 to 20 August and will provide a great opportunity for the teenagers to work with Australian Emus and Gems head coaches Marty Clarke and Dean Kinsman, together with Patrick Hunt and the National Intensive Training Centre Program head coaches.
Australian team selections for the Oceania Youth Tournament in October will be made following the camp.
The trio will attend the camp among 67 up-and-coming male and female athletes who have been invited from around Australia.
All attendees will be eligible for the 2009, 19-and-under world championships for FIBA, the International Basketball Federation.
Basketball Victoria state director of coaching Ross Wignell said it was a good chance for the best young prospects to gain experience at a high level.
“Basketball Australia is introducing a series of camps each year to develop athletes and coaches who are seen as having the potential to participate at an international level,” he said.
Victorian metropolitan athletes selected for the national development camp are:
Stephanie Cumming, Bryce Arnott and Samir Omerbasic (Dandenong Rangers), Joshua Wilcher and Jackson Watts (Sandringham Sabres), Hope Terdich (Melbourne Tigers), Ryan Broekhoff, James Orr and Ben Jacobson (Frankston Blues), Alice Kunek and Sam Creed (Eltham Wildcats), Rachel Jarry (Altona Gators), Benjamin Kelly (Bulleen Boomers), Andrew Steel and Rosie Moult (Nunawading Spectres), Jordan Van den Burg (Waverley Falcons).
