Centre commended

NOBLE Park’s Paddy O’Donoghue Centre has been recognised nationally for its strong contribution to the township.
The centre, which opened early this year, houses a plethora of community groups ranging from soup kitchens to homework groups, and multicultural service programs through to University of the Third Age courses.
Centre coordinator Jill White said the centre received a commendation in the Strong and Resilient Communities Category at the 2006 National Awards for Local Government.
City of Greater Dandenong social services director June Dugina will collect the award on behalf of council next Monday.
Ms White said the commendation so early in the centre’s lifespan was an outstanding achievement for all involved.
“This is a significant achievement given the large number and high-quality of entries received,” she said.
“Our project has been recognised in the 2006 National Awards for Local Government Winners Supplement Booklet and in the Guide to Leading Practice, an interactive, searchable awards database.”
This year marks the 20th ceremony of the National Awards for Local Government, which were originally established to reward and highlight outstanding achievements in local government.
