Grenda on the road to new HQ

GREATER Dandenong Business Hall of Fame inductee Ken Grenda joined Major Projects Minister Theo Theophanous to turn the first sod of soil on Grenda Transit Management’s new $14 million Dandenong site.
Company patriarch and director Ken Grenda said that during its 62-year history demand for Grenda’s business had exploded and its Foster Street home had become a collection of fragmented sites.
Last year VicUrban purchased the site and with the help of the City of Greater Dandenong found Grenda a new site near Brighton Road.
Mr Grenda said the move to a single and modern facility would also help Grenda cater for increased public transport demand under VicUrban’s Revitalising Central Dandenong project.
The company will make the move from its 1.7-hectare site along Foster Street to the new site near Brighton Road in November this year.
The new 2.7 hectare site lies near the planned Cheltenham Road realignment, south of the Dandenong train line.
Mr Theophanous praised the move and said it would help Grenda further its transport operations.
“This is a demonstration of Grenda’s commitment to the Dandenong region,” he said.
“Their new $14 million headquarters will also create many new employment opportunities through the construction phase and upon completion.”
Meanwhile, plans to build a new education facility on the Foster Street site appear to be well under way.
Last week Star revealed that Chisholm Institute of TAFE was planning to build a business and management campus on the site which would place it within walking distance of Dandenong railway station.
