RESIDENTS have been warned to keep a close eye on their garbage bins following a recent increase in bin thefts.
Waste collection operator Theis Services has reported a 100 per cent increase in the number of bin thefts in Greater Dandenong in August and September this year.
Mayor Youhorn Chea said it was possible the bins were stolen for use as water storage containers.
The council suggests that residents mark their property number on their bins to help police identify them if they are stolen.
