Cinema’s

GREATER Dandenong residents have expressed their disgust at Village’s second withdrawal of a cinema from the region within just four months.
Star has been swamped with feedback since printing last week’s story on the cinema’s closure, with many people upset and in disbelief that Waverley Gardens Village Cinemas is closing.
Betty McGrath, 78, of Dandenong North, said the situation was ‘terrible’.
“I’m 78 and don’t drive, so it was nice to walk there and I used to see two shows on one day,” she said. “So now I’m sort of lost for something to do.
“It would be very good if another cinema opened here instead of me having to go to Fountain Gate by catching a bus or taxi.”
Jean Edwards, 77, also from Dandenong North, said she was “dismayed and disgusted” by the move and pointed the finger at both Village and Mirvac – operator of Waverley Gardens – for disadvantaging the community.
“It does bother me greatly. Greater Dandenong is growing now and there’s absolutely nothing to do,” she said.
“There will also be more young people hanging around everywhere.
“I’m disgusted at both Mirvac and Village.”
