Gathering draws the faithful

INTERFAITH Network (IFN) celebrated its 13th Annual Gathering at Dandenong’s Drum Theatre last week.
The annual gathering was a chance to celebrate the work of the IFN and its partnership with the City of Greater Dandenong council.
Greater Dandenong mayor Youhorn Chea addressed the gathering, which provides an opportunity for all IFN leaders to publicly reaffirm their commitment to the community and council through the signing of a common statement.
This statement is a public affirmation of the partnership shared between the two parties.
“The Interfaith Network’s message is simple, yet poignant,” Cr Chea said.
“The group exists to promote understanding, respect and tolerance for each other’s beliefs by living together in peace and goodwill.
“These ideals are particularly relevant in our culturally diverse city. The network is a unique body which the council is proud to support.”
A traditional part of the annual gathering is the central presentation, which this year was based on the United Nations theme, International Year of Planet Earth.
Each IFN leader participated in a ceremony reflecting upon the importance of caring for the Earth and each other.
Meanwhile, a group of 16 local schools and about 1000 students came together on 23 October for the Schools Interfaith Annual Gathering.
The event aimed to give young people from Greater Dandenong exposure to different faiths and cultures and promote harmony and understanding in the community.
