Entries please, but only the talented

ORGANISERS of a Springvale talent quest are calling for junior and senior entrants to the competition, but have indicated casual karaoke singers should stay clear.
Springvale South Primary School in conjunction with the Lions Club of Noble Park Keysborough will host the 2006 Summer Community Festival at its school grounds from 17 to 19 February and will include a talent quest.
Springvale South Primary School performing arts coordinator Carmel Nigro expected an influx of entrants in their 20s for a new section for people aged 16 years and over.
“(The talent quest) has been successful, and now we are introducing an adult section.
“We have always done the competition, but for kids only.”
Ms Nigro said a judging panel would be formed, and auditions would take place on Sunday 29 January and Sunday 4 February, before final heats during the festival. She said the competition was fun, but encouraged people to enter only if they believed they were talented.
“It is not a karaoke night; it is a talent quest,” she said. “There will be a panel of judges, and cash prizes for the winners.”
The festival, now in its third year, last year attracted 10,000 people over three days.
“We have really good rides, which always attracts people,” Ms Nigro said.
“We have got a band, the Police band, and quite a lot of good stage acts. Sunday will be a family fun day. We have got Humphrey B Bear coming.”
The festival will be held at Burden Park, corner of Heatherton and Springvale Roads, Springvale South, with proceeds divided between the school and Lions Club.
Entrants for the talent quest can call Carmel Nigro on 9547 1224 or 0421 086 510.
