Rangers hold onto second

DANDENONG went one for one, but retained second spot on the Big V Championship Men’s ladder, after a tough double-header on the weekend.
On Saturday night the Rangers travelled to Hume City, but fell 109-95 after Bronco spearhead Mike Spears tore apart the Dandenong defence with 27 points.
Brent Hobba was the best for Dandenong, netting 25 points and collecting 10 boards.
The Rangers rallied on Sunday afternoon, beating the lowly Latrobe City 109-77 at the Dandenong Basketball Stadium.
Dandenong led from start to finish in a win headlined by Ash Cannan, who scored 16 points and took 17 rebounds).
David Godfrey also impressed, contributing 18 points in a haul that included four triples from eight attempts.
On Saturday Dandenong hosts Eltham at the Stud Road stadium, with tip off is 7.30pm.
Dandenong’s Championship Women’s side enjoyed an overtime win that will be long remembered against Hume City on Saturday night.
The large crowd at Broadmeadows Basketball Stadium was treated to a 78-75 win in extra time, with a victory that has kept the Rangers’ hopes of playing finals alive.
Hume City was without two big guns in Elyse Penaluna and Sharin Milner, though Dandenong missed its top-scorer Melissa Colcott as well. Meagan Green stepped up the Rangers, bagging 23 points.
Dandenong proved too strong in the overtime period, scoring four points to one and securing the win.
