THE new Dandenong High School is another step closer to completion this week with works on stage two of the project under way.
Dandenong High School is the amalgamation of the former Dandenong, Cleeland and Doveton secondary schools.
Education Minister Bronwyn Pike turned the first sod on stage two works in the traditional political manner before sitting down with school staff to hear from them the importance of the project being finished on time to ensure minimal disruption to classes.
Dandenong MP John Pandazopoulos said the stage two works, which involved building the last three of seven new buildings at the Dandenong campus, would cost $10 million, on top of the $20 million already invested in the project.
He said the project was exciting but posed the challenge of trying to rebuild a school while students were taking classes.
“Timing is of the essence and we have to make sure there are no more works by the end of 2010,” he said.
Meanwhile, the State Government pumped $1.68 million into Chisholm TAFE with the Dandenong and Berwick campuses set to receive a wireless Internet service so students can browse the web and intranet from their laptops anywhere within the TAFE college’s grounds.
