RESTAURANTS in Greater Dandenong will be able to slash their water usage by up to 50 per cent thanks to a new water-saving spray gun being offered free by the State Government.
South East Water and the Victorian Government have teamed up to offer an ‘efficient for inefficient’ swap of pre-rinse spray guns found in commercial kitchens – similar to that of its residential showerhead swap.
Water Minister and Lyndhurst MP Tim Holding said the new devices would be installed in at least 250 commercial kitchens across the state, including Greater Dandenong.
“Melbourne’s non-residential water users including restaurants, catering businesses and hospitals are saving massive amounts of water but there is always more that can be done,” Mr Holding said.
“Very few people realise just how much drinking water is used in commercial kitchens particularly to clean pots, pans and utensils – before placing them in the dishwasher.
“These new water efficient spray guns use just four litres a minute, which is around 50 per cent less water than traditional products.”
