Green push- Thelma Wakelam is urging residents to fill out a survey to help determine a need f

A FOCUS group for the Dandenong and Casey region has the results of a survey it conducted about community expectations for an environmental centre.
Thelma Wakelam, who is the president of Residents Against Toxic Waste in the South East (RATWISE), created the focus group to determine whether an environmental centre should be opened in the City of Casey.
Ms Wakelam who began handing out the survey in November last year hoped an environmental centre would be developed based on the expectations expressed in the survey.
She said the research was complete and a final report was being compiled and would be released to the public soon.
Ms Wakelam said the majority of people were in favour of an environment centre in the Dandenong and Casey region.
“It should be a place that educates. A place for people and groups to meet,” she said.
Ms Wakelam said the Environment Centre Focus group has been meeting regularly, and encouraged other people to get involved.
Anyone interested in the environment, such as sustainability objectives, plants, pollution and conditions of creeks, fauna and flora are invited to the meetings.
