THE Dandenong Rangers recruiting juggernaut rolled on this week with the addition of two more prized signatures to the WNBL club’s books.
Former Opals guard Kathleen Macleod and two-time Canberra Capitals championship player Chantella Perera have agreed to return to Stud Road for the 2010/11 season.
Macleod learnt her trade at Dandenong before becoming a WNBL all-star at Bendigo in 2007/08, and has since been playing professionally in Europe.
She is set to become the floor general for the new-look Rangers outfit next season, with coach Mark Wright declaring that she is “arguably the best point guard in Australia”.
That will leave boom recruit Jess Foley, reigning Dandenong MVP Steph Cumming and Perera to fight for the other starting spot in a backcourt that suddenly looks formidable.
Perera, who started her WNBL career at Dandenong under coach Dale Waters in 2007/08, cited a degree of home-sickness as the reason for her return from Canberra.
She was an impact player off the bench in the Capitals back-to-back championship campaigns and is looking to take her game to a new level in 2010/11.
Wright said he expects the Rangers to benefit from Perera’s winning attitude and athleticism at the guard position.
