STUDENTS at St John’s Regional College set out to make a difference last week.
On Thursday 19 August community conducted its inaugural Make a Difference (MAD) Day to raise funds for the De La Salle Brothers and Presentation Sisters projects for poor and marginalised young people in the Asia Pacific region.
The De La Salle Brothers’ Lasallian Foundation supports projects throughout the Asia Pacific region that provide poor and disadvantaged children with an opportunity to break the poverty cycle, deputy principal Chris Burn said.
Students started the day with a Mass before participating in an eight -kilometre walk on the Dandenong Creek trial.
“Students were asked to seek donations from family and friends and so far we have raised over $17,000,” Mr Burn said.
“At St John’s, we educate the whole person and it is important for our young people to have a sense of social justice issues,” Mr Burn said.
“MAD Day is a tangible way in which our students can really make a difference to those who are much less fortunate than ourselves,” he said.
