CAT owners are reminded to de-sex their pets after five baby kittens were found under a Dandenong house last week.
The baby ginger moggies were found after the homeowner heard a purring sound.
Australian Animal Rescue (AAR) vice-president Sharon Williamson rescued the kittens but was unable to find the mother cat.
She has since found the kittens new owners, but said the scenario demonstrated the importance of proper pet care.
“It’s important to de-sex and micro-chip cats and keep up with the injections against cat flu – which should be done yearly,” she said.
“I recommend the Australian Animal Protection Society… in Keysborough.”
Ms Williamson said AAR rescued about 80 cats a year as a result of cats not being de-sexed.
“A mother cat will have a litter of five to seven kittens, then those cats will have seven more. It keeps multiplying,” she said.
She urged anyone who wanted to adopt a kitten to contacther at Australian Animal Rescue Inc on 0430 883 083 or visit www.australiananimalrescue.org.au
