Funds flood in

By Emma Sun
Organiser Penny Lam said they had been keeping tabs on the floods since November, when they were organising their Australia Day dinner.
“We were going to have a dinner to celebrate Australia Day and the year of the rabbit,” Ms Wong said.
“The dinner is for all the Chinese community to come together to celebrate our achievement as a nation and look forward to future opportunities.”
However, as the floods progressively worsened, Ms Wong said they decided to dedicate their dinner to the flood relief.
The community raised over $10,000 a few weeks ago when they, along with Greater Dandenong mayor Roz Blades and the Salvation Army, patrolled Springvale streets with tins and asked for donations.
They then did the same in Chinatown a week later and raised over $8000.
The Indo-China Ethnic Chinese Community is hoping to raise more than $10,000 at the dinner, which will be held this Sunday 23 January at Happy Reception.
Already 28 tables have been sold, with attendees looking to hit the 300 mark.
Members of the public are welcome to attend.
Tickets are $40 per person, which includes a banquet. Everyone attending will be encouraged to donate toward the flood relief.
Happy Reception is located at 199, Union Road, Ascot Vale. Call Penny Lam on 0411 378 388 for details.
