ENDEAVOUR Hills Rotary Club raised more than $14,000 during its annual charity golf day at Cranbourne Golf Club last week.
The club hosted the event for 96 golfers from around the Casey and Greater Dandenong areas, with players enjoying mild golfing weather and excellent playing conditions despite rain the previous weekend. Endeavour Hills Rotary president John O’Reilly said the day was a success in every way and that 100 per cent of the money would go to two special causes.
He said club members cooked two meals each year for people at the Cornerstone Drop-in centre in Dandenong and provided funds for Disaster Aid Australia, the club’s overseas aid group that helps places hit by disaster.
The club helped typhoon survivors in the Philippines recently through the program.
“Every cent of the money goes to these causes and we volunteer our time to make sure the day goes ahead,” O’Reilly said. “We have been doing those two meals at Cornerstone for the past few years and it’s very uplifting to sit down and break bread and have a yack with the people who come to the centre.”
O’Reilly
praised the organisers, led by Peter Verey, and thanked the Cranbourne Golf Club for getting the course into great shape and providing a meal.
He encouraged anyone interested in sponsoring next year’s golf day or volunteering with Rotary to contact the club via the internet or book by phone.
