Tip nod ‘reckless’

THE problem of the Lyndhurst Tip has been solved according to the State Government.
Planning Minister Matthew Guy defended his decision to allow hazardous waste, without a buffer zone, at the Taylors Road site during question time in parliament last Tuesday.
But local environmental group, Residents Against Toxic Waste in the South East (RATWISE), has hit back saying Mr Guy’s comments were reckless.
“We have a facility that has been approved for class-A waste and has been ticked off by the relevant authorities,” Mr Guy said in parliament.
“This government has solved the problem.”
RATWISE president Thelma Wakelam said Mr Guy has disregarded residents concerns.
“RATWISE is appalled at Mr Guy’s reckless comments,” Ms Wakelam said.
“He shows total disregard for this area through his comments, and has now condemned the communities of Lynbrook, Lyndhurst, and Hampton Park to an uncertain future.”
“The government needs to formulate a clear, workable hazardous waste management policy which sees these facilities away from where people live and work.”
Mr Guy argued that Lyndhurst was the best location for the hazardous waste because it was away from urban and growth areas.
