A 128-run Kelly Applebee (91) and Alana King (70 not out) partnership dented Box Hill’s form leading into finals next weekend.
A true captain’s innings was forged by Applebee, taking the young protégé King under her wing to generate a match-winning tandem as Dandenong reached 5/209 from their 50 overs. The response was brutal as the Lions ripped shreds out of the Mustangs’ line-up.
Julie Hunter (4/24) showed why she’s one of Australia’s best bowlers while Emma Gallagher (3/18) also impressed as did emerging talent Chelsea Moscript (2/22).
Dandenong remains in limbo for this round – a win or loss won’t likely change their spot in the finals pecking order, with their percentage lower than Brunswick Park above them.
Dandenong faces incumbent wooden spooners Melbourne in final one-dayer of the home and away season.
The match starts at 11am at Greaves Reserve on Saturday.
A horror season for Dandenong’s seconds was mercifully brought to an end over the weekend by Melton, with the Lions forfeiting the match.
