Dandy women for finals

DANDENONG Women’s Cricket Club has booked a spot in the Victorian Women’s Cricket Association (VWCA) grand final after besting Essendon Maribyrnong Park in a rain-affected semi-final.
Julie Hunter was unplayable as she terrorised the Parkers. From her 10 overs, she reaped 4/6 with seven maidens, reducing the home side to 5/20 as Hunter, Emma Gallagher (2/27) and Alana King (1/27) took care of the top order. A rescue effort from Cassandra Brock (41) and Kristen Beams (35) delivered an extra 76 to the tally before the pair was rattled out with the scores on 96.
The tail wagged by EMP to get it to 14 as Laura Croft (1/24) reaped the last wicket for the Lions.
The experienced Lions shouldered the workload – chasing down the Duckworth-Lewis reduced total of 10 – captain Erica Kershaw (27) in tandem with Kelly Applebee (38) guided the side out of trouble following two early wickets. Applebee and champion all-rounder Hunter (18) lifted the revised run-rate, before Gallagher (4 not out) belted a boundary off to guide the Lions home.
Dandenong will take on Box Hill in the grand final at AH Butler Reserve, Frankston-Peninsula’s home ground, in Frankston on Saturday from 11am.
