Cougars on the cusp

By JARROD POTTER

IT might be early days in the Big V basketball season, but second-placed Keysborough will face its toughest challenge yet when it squares off against the Casey Cavaliers in the battle for first.
Coming off back-to-back wins against Melton and Keilor, the Cougars are well set for a tilt at the finals and potentially even greater rewards.
Their success has come on the backs of forward recruits Matt Dettman and Tim Brook, while guard Nathaniel O’Hara has impressed early since his Cougars-to-Cougars switch from McKinnon.
Import centre Kevin Benn remains one of the most challenging 5-men to get past in the competition.
In the youth men, Cougars’ recruit Matt Walker, the 2012 Big V Youth Championship Men Division 2 Rising Star and All-Star 5 member, faces his old side Casey for the first time since leaving over the off-season.
