THE Australian women’s cricket team was whittled down to the final 15-player squad – including two Dandenong Lions cricketers- to fight for the Ashes.
Julie Hunter and Sarah Elliott were selected in the finalised squad to take on England throughout August – with a Test match, three one-day internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20Is to decide who claims the Ashes.
Julie Hunter will lead the pace attack for Australia – hoping to make her Test debut to go alongside 15 ODIs with 19 wickets at 18.94.
Elliott will be part of the squad for the sole test against the English at Wormsley Cricket Ground on 11-14 August – and is no stranger to Test match cricket, having struck 81 not out on debut for Australia against England in 2011.
The pair were crucial to Dandenong claiming their 10th VWCA premiership – with Elliott (73 not out) and Hunter (48 and 4/48) adding 83 for the fourth wicket partnership.
