THE future is looking much brighter for the Doveton Eagles, thanks
to a plan to upgrade lighting at their Power Reserve home ground.

After receiving significant grants from the state government and
Casey council, Doveton’s long struggle with its sub-standard two-tower
lighting will become a thing of the past. Two new towers will be
installed.

“It’s difficult to fund-raise the sort of money you need for a project of this size,” Eagles president Jenny Davis said.

The state government will contribute $69,600 and the
council will make up the difference for the $116,000 project, which
means the entire ground will able to be used through winter.

“With the lights we have at the moment we can only use one side of
the ground, which isn’t good for the surface, and you can only have one
team training at any one time,” Davis said.

“We’ve had players getting injured because they can’t see
properly, and we couldn’t have juniors [training] due to the dangers
with the lighting.

“My son [Paul Davis] is the coach and he says he’s spent the past
18 years in the dark. This announcement is just fantastic for the club.”

Sport and Recreation Minister Hugh Delahunty said the project was a major step forward for the club and the community.
