Rangers over the Blues

By JARROD POTTER

SEABL – round 5

ANZAC Day action this year was on court as Dandenong clashed with Frankston.
The Rangers stormed ahead in the first match of the night against Frankston’s women – taking a 23-8 lead at the first change.
Dandenong’s women jumped out of the blocks in the second term as well before Frankston’s Maddie Garrick (24 points, 11 rebounds) – a Bendigo Spirit WNBL player started smashing down three after three.
It levelled the ledger and left the match at half-time poised at 37-36 favouring Dandenong.
Larissa Anderson’s charges started to find their feet again in the second half as Lauren Scherf (13 points, 10 rebounds) started amassing stats at both ends of the court.
The match devolved after half-time as shooting became more difficult and the defensive pressure from both sides proved immense.
Dandenong shot away in the final term to add some leeway to the final margin and boost the Rangers to third in the East Women’s conference.
It was a night for the high flying Rangers as Alison Downie (13 points, 13 rebounds) and Faith Probst (12 points, 7 rebounds) took the skies to keep the ball away from Frankston.
Guard pair Aimie Clydesdale (9 points) and Clare Papavs (8 points, 5 assists) supplemented Dandenong’s tall timber and relished taking a few shots of their own.
The men however could not replicate the women’s success – downed 90-94 in overtime.
Daequon Montreal (44 points, 7 rebounds) starred for the Rangers with Tony Lewis (12 points, 8 rebounds) and Owen Odigie (11 points) also impressing.
The Rangers face Canberra on Saturday night.
