Dog shooting: witnesses wanted

By CASEY NEILL

A KEYSBOROUGH man is appealing for help to find out who shot his dog.
The Star reported on 11 April that Jamie Macgregor heard his two dogs barking about 7.15pm on 5 April, followed by a gunshot and a dog yelping in pain.
He rushed out of his Kirkham Road West home in time to see a car speed away, and found seven-year-old boxer Maxie with a bullet wound to the head in his driveway.
This week saw renewed pleas for witnesses to the attack.
“Maxie is a part of my family, I spend my pension feeding him and the rest of my dogs,” he said.
“He was covered in blood and I hugged him.
“I managed to put a bandage on him and called the police.”
It’s believed, a small bullet or similar item hit the dog beside the left eye and travelled through his head, exiting below the jaw.
Maxie received treatment and is still recovering from the injury.
Mr Macgregor said he heard cars hooning up and down the street prior to the shot.
Greater Dandenong CIU Detective Senior Constable Nick Lamb said police had not identified a motive for the attack, and there were no signs of an attempted break-in at the premises.
“Obviously, it’s a concern – people going around with firearms and using them to shoot animals, or discharge them in a public place,” he said.
