Baa saga: What you say

■ Mr Vu Ho should be allowed to keep his pet sheep.
He is not a farmer, so his sheep is classified as a pet, not as
livestock. Different councils have different local laws which are
contradictory; for instance, Port Phillip council allows residents to
keep two sheep, plus other animals. Why is the Greater Dandenong council
being so stubborn? I have visited Baa and she is in good condition and
very happy.

SALOME ARGYROPOULOS SPRINGVALE

■ This whole thing has become farcical.
What is the council trying to prove? That its law must be upheld by all
means? I hope the person who possibly complained about the sheep is
tormented in their sleep, because of what heartache that has been
brought to Mr Vu Ho to bear. If the sheep is removed it will more than
likely die of a broken heart from loneliness.

R. G. WEST HASTINGS

■ Why has Vu Ho been allowed to flaunt
our council local laws for so long, to say nothing of possible cruelty
to his so-called pet sheep, as everyone knows sheep are shorn in hot
weather (attention RSPCA) and his pet sheep appears to carry a huge
amount of heavy, dirty wool. This pet should be either put down or let
free among other sheep.

D. LUKE DOVETON

■ The council has interfered with people
with their roaming dogs but this animal is very well cared for and
protected. Why shouldn’t this man have someone special?

LILIAN HALLAM

■ Mr Ho, Australia needs more people
with a heart like you. If Australia had a “Department of Common Sense”,
they would see the benefits of keeping a harmless, herbivorous sheep in
comparison to cats which cause massive wildlife carnage. You are brave
to fight for your sheep and I understand what great, practical pets they
are as I have had two lawnmower sheep.

LINDA K QUEENSLAND

■ We could all take a lesson from Mr Ho’s
unconditional love for his family pet. It is ridiculous and cruel for
any council to expect that a family pet can be removed like this.

DEBORAH VIA WEB

■ Last week, the day before my mother’s
funeral, I had to bury my very old dog Pugsly, as well as my two very
old horses. All were precious to me. I understand Mr Ho’s determination
to keep his sheep. To “send it to a new home” as suggested by Angela
Long totally ignores the love one can have for pets as well as family.
Separation hurts. To Greater Dandenong council: look at the issues that
matter.
