Cocktail cash for cancer

GREATER Dandenong’s Greek Community is rallying to raise cash for cancer.
Helen Pipilakis joined the Cocktail for a Cure committee to honour family members touched by the disease.
“I will be admiring my grandmother as a survivor, paying tribute to my mother who lost her battle, and cheering on my sister in her current fight against cancer,” she said.
“I know that other members of our community will be doing the same.”
Ms Pipilakis said one in three people would be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, and the other two will know someone who’s diagnosed.
“Unfortunately, cancer affects everyone – the young and old, the rich and poor, men, women and children,” she said.
“It is imperative to keep raising much-needed funds for such a worthy cause.
“So we’re asking for people to come along and show their support for the fighters and survivors, and honour the memory of those who have lost their battle.”
The St Panteleimon Greek Orthodox Church Dandenong community is hosting the cocktail party on Melbourne Cup Day eve, Monday 4 November, at the youth hall at 19 Herbert Street, Dandenong from 7.30pm until late.
Guests are encouraged to wear cocktail attire and their favourite wig.
All proceeds will be donated to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, a hospital dedicated to caring for and treating patients with a wide range of cancers.
Merchandise and donation envelopes will be available for guests wishing to make any additional donations to Peter Mac and other support organisations.
“Until there is a cure, there is hope,” Ms Pipliakis said.
Cocktail for a Cure tickets are $25 and include finger food and entertainment. Kids aged under 5 attend free.
