MIGRANTS can now learn about their consumer rights through multilingual videos.
Consumer Affairs Minister Heidi Victoria last week launched My Consumer Rights – videos in seven languages about consumer rights and responsibilities when buying goods and services in Australia.
She said the videos featured simple messages and universal symbols and gestures to explain the basics of Australian Consumer Law.
“Trade practices in Australia are different from many overseas countries, and many new migrants and refugees may not appreciate their rights and responsibilities under Australia’s consumer protection laws,” Ms Victoria said.
The videos are available in English, Arabic, Dinka, Karen, Farsi, Nepalese and Tamil and cover shopping rights, refunds, contracts, guarantees and warranties, lay-by agreements, resolving issues and lodging a complaint.
