It’s none of our business but…

FIREFIGHTERS from Dandenong Fire Brigade and other crews in the south east were among those lending a hand in New South Wales last week.
The strike team gathered at the CFA’s Bangholme Training Campus before making the drive up.

AS MARK Twain might have said, reports of our death have been greatly exaggerated.
Tonight, City of Greater Dandenong councillor Matthew Kirwan was to table a report for more council-published newsletters to fill the gap left by a decline in local newspapers.
Of course, you’re reading this in your family-owned community newspaper of 148 years, so there’s life in the old dog yet.

DANDENONG-based investment director and Black Caviar part-owner Colin Madden has struck it lucky again.
It was announced last week that the record-beating mare had conceived to sire Exceed and Excel.
He told the Journal he’d hold onto his stake in the foal and there were plans to “continue the legend of Black Caviar” with trainer Peter Moody in two-and-a-half-years.

DANDENONG Magistrates’ Court was under the pump, with a rowdy lot crowding its holding cells last Monday.
Hollering from the cells was clearly heard from the courtroom most of the day.
Despite magistrates’ best efforts there were still nine holding-bay prisoners awaiting hearing after the lunch break.

DANDENONG Market tells us that a couple visiting the icon had walked 17 kilometres just to eat at Harry Hoo’s new Market Square stall.
They had to check out the new legend of the dim sim world.
What’s your favourite Dandenong Market stall? Head to www.facebook.com/DandenongJournal and let us know.

DANDENONG Pavilion boasted a well-known diner on 16 October.
Come-from-behind Winter Olympic speed-skating gold-medallist Steven Bradbury walked through the doors on 16 October and was happy to pose with waitstaff for a few snaps.

CRIME Prevention Minister Edward O’Donohue’s announcement of $13,226 for a Dandenong graffiti clean-up fell a little flat last week – thanks to his own colleague.
South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Gordon Rich-Phillips let news of the grant slip back in September.
The cash will support a blitz on Hemmings Park in March next year.

NEW figures show 15 per cent of Greater Dandenong, Casey and Cardinia residents smoke daily – just below the 16 per cent national average.
That’s about 53,000 people.
The data also showed about 215,000 people in the area were overweight or obese – 60 per cent of the population, again just down on the national average, which is at 63 per cent.
South Eastern Melbourne Medicare Local (SEMML) will use the figures to guide its programs and measure outcomes.
