REGULAR Dandenong Market audits have failed to find evidence of illegal products for sale.
The City of Greater Dandenong recently received a letter from a concerned market shopper stating that retailers were selling illegal products.
The council advised the writer to contact the market, but market general manager Jennifer Hibbs said they had not done so.
“We have not had any follow up contact from the individual who made this claim,” she said.
“If they were to contact us and provide supporting evidence to substantiate their allegation this would, of course, warrant further investigations.”
Ms Hibbs said traders were all individual businesses so the market had limited control over what they sold.
“We regularly undertake audits of market stalls, the last has just been completed, and those investigations have not revealed anything to support the allegations made to council,” she said.
