Petition for primary school

MORE than 1000 petitioners have urged the State Government to build a primary school in Keysborough South.
This month, Nina Kelly of Keysborough South Action Group presented the petition to Keysborough MP Martin Pakula, who will table it in Parliament.
The group argues there is no state primary school within walking distance of the suburb’s rapidly-growing housing estates.
The State Government has yet to provide funding for acquiring land or construction of the school.
An Education Department spokesman recently said there was currently “capacity” in the Keysborough network to “accommodate short-term growth forecasts”.
Greater Dandenong Council has set aside $3 million in its draft 2015-16 budget to lock away land for a future state primary school.
