Minister tackled over golf plan

By CAM LUCADOU-WELLS

GREENS MP Nina Springle has raised an objection in State Parliament to Keysborough Golf Club’s plan to convert its green-wedge golf course into a housing estate.
On 17 September, Ms Springle asked about Planning Minister Richard Wynne’s attitude to “removing 76 hectares from the green wedge so that a property developer can make a killing?”
She said Mr Wynne had until mid-October to respond to her constituency question.
A spokeswoman for Mr Wynne recently told the Journal the plan was “yet to be considered”.
“The Andrews Labor government has committed to maintaining and enhancing the green wedge and, while we will not pre-empt any decisions, future applications would be considered with that pledge in mind.”
The club’s plan involves moving to a yet-to-be built golf course and training centre about 2.5 kilometres away to 256-356 Pillars Road.
Under the move, the current site at Hutton and Springvale roads would be sold to developer Intrapac – subject to the state government agreeing to rezone it for residential development.
If the plan procceds, the club and its shareholders were expected to yield $40 million.
